Characteristics of a Shallow Person

A person who is shallow is focused only on the surface. This means they are not interested in what is going on underneath. On the other hand, superficial individuals only care about themselves.

You can assume that being around this type of person is not very fun. You would not rely too much on them, as shallow individuals would not be your go-to person for emergencies or even if you ever need anything.

A relationship with a shallow individual is about what they need and what you can provide to them.

Although everyone can be considered shallow on occasion, some people are just plain annoying and draining to be around. This is why it’s important to learn more about these types of people and know when to stop being around them.

What is shallow?

People with shallow traits are often described as individuals who lack empathy, social awareness, and a sense of depth. They are often wrapped up in their own personal self-drama and do not see the world around them.

A person with shallow traits lives in a world that revolves around them. However, there are also varying levels of this trait.

Although you may occasionally be considered shallow, it’s important to take a good look at yourself. If you consistently display several signs of this trait, then you might need to change your approach.

Try to get an honest opinion from someone close to you. Self-discovery is beneficial, as it allows us to grow and improve ourselves.

Characteristics of a shallow person

Notice the signs that a person you are constantly around is a shallow person.

1. They complain about people not doing what they say they’re going to do

They don’t care if people have a good reason for not doing what they said, they just care about the inconveniences caused by their actions or inactions. They have a hard time believing sometimes things are more important than them.

2. They are annoyed when someone has a problem that messes up their day

They would be considered a shallow person if their only concern is their day. They might be annoyed by someone else’s hectic schedule or unfortunate circumstance because it’s not ideal for them.

3. Nothing is ever their fault

The way shallow individuals see the world is that people are too sensitive. They believe that they only affect themselves.

If you’re not familiar with the butterfly effect, then please read up. It’s important to understand that what you do affects others and needs to be changed.

4. They judge people by what they do or how they talk

People with shallow traits need to stop judging others based on what they can afford or choose. Instead, they should start thinking about what they can contribute to the world around them.

5. The light is on, but no-one is home

Those who are shallow tend to pretend to be all-in, but they never actually give anything of themselves.

6. Anything real makes them uncomfortable

They are considered shallow individuals if they can’t participate in deep conversations.

7. They say “no” to anything that doesn’t benefit them

It’s not that those who have deep souls are “yes” people. Shallow people merely care about other individuals more than themselves.

If an individual refuses to pitch in or is unwilling to work on something that might not benefit them, then they can be considered a shallow person.

8. They always have better plans

Good friends are only made possible by being a good friend and sometimes that means putting aside your own plans to join your friends. A superficial person would never consider this. They only do what’s best for themselves.

9. Whenever there is a problem, they’re busy and can’t be bothered

A person who is shallow doesn’t see things beyond themselves. This means that whenever a friend or family member needs help, they’re likely to be very busy.

10. Emergencies are a huge inconvenience to them

If a person refuses to be bothered by the situations happening in another person’s world, they are both apathetic and part of the superficial population.

11. Their true love is money, power, or status

If a person is attached to a couple because of their status, money, or power, then they are considered shallow. They treat the other person in a way that makes them feel like they’re the most significant individual in the world.

12. They’re always “busy” like the rest of us aren’t!

They can’t answer an email, respond to a text message, or make an event happen because they’re too busy. The mere act of responding to someone takes a fraction of a second, and they are simply not worth it.

13. Their allegiance goes to the highest bidder

Their concept of relationships and friendships is based on the philosophy of “What can you do for me?”. Shallow people only accept people when they are beneficial to them.

14. They can never pick which selfie is your favorite

Are you acquainted with an individual who believes that everybody gives a shit about their food and the selfies that they take on a daily basis? Is it because they spend too much time on social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat, attempting to engage with their following? That is simply shallow.

15. They buy things only if they are a named brand

No one pays attention to this. The truth is, regular department stores sell the same shit.

16. Gossip is their favorite way to pass the time

Those who prefer to deal with trivial matters in a way that doesn’t involve real-world challenges or personal hardships are considered shallow.

17. Their favorite date is their phone

The superficial population is full of self-absorbed individuals who have no idea that they are being rude by constantly checking their phones. Put down your phone and social media accounts and join us, jerk.

18. Every story they tell is twisted in their favor

They never do anything wrong, and their moral standing is higher than anyone else’s. So, even though they’re not the main characters in every story, shallow people still believe that they are the heroes in all of them.

19. Their friends are status symbols, not real people

If they select their friends based on their Instagram photos, we have no need to discuss their shallow nature.

20. They don’t care about the world problems

We’re aware that whatever happens in the life of a shallow person is considered to be the worst, and they should learn about the suffering of people all around the world. But instead, they go with the “poor me” mentality.

21. They have to be the center of attention

If they have to resort to drama in order to get attention, they will do so. Otherwise, they’ll have nothing to talk about. Sometimes you just have to let them be the center of attention. Flashes in the pan rarely shine for long.

22. They use people

This type of ideation is generally considered to be a person’s lack of purpose in life. If they only have people around them who can help them with their problems, such as buying them things that they need, then they will end up with a negative outcome.

23. They lack empathy

They might think that everything that happens to a person is their fault, but they should start looking at how other people are affected by their actions. It’s possible that not everyone was as fortunate as the shallow people.

24. They’re always in the market for something they perceive to be better

They’re always ready to trade up a friend or a love interest in order to get what they really want in life. Since they’re always focused on what other people can offer them and how others will perceive them, they think that people are disposable.

25. They go where the wind blows

A superficial individual does not possess a conviction or opinion that can be swayed or dislodged without much pressure. A person who is superficial is not interested in caring about anything outside of themselves.

26. They smile when talking but look you up and down

The way they express their emotions doesn’t necessarily reflect their genuine beliefs. A good “Bless your heart” may well be all that they need to rip you apart whenever you are far away.

27. They have nothing to add to anything

A person who is shallow would never utter the phrase “adding a little” during a conversation. Not listening to what you’re saying is because they don’t care, and they likely prefer to watch your lips move.

28. Their social media persona is the only one that exists

Shallow people create their own social media personas, but they are about a tenth of the level of intensity of the persona that they created. Their online persona is not genuine, making them superficial.

29. They tune out when you talk

A person who is conversational narcissist is considered to be superficial. They only find interesting the things that they are involved in.

When you first meet a superficial individual, they tend to hijack the conversation. It always comes back to “me.”

30. They date someone to increase their status

A superficial individual is only interested in improving their own status by dating others. If they can move up the social ladder then “I’m all yours”.

31. They are all about the backhanded compliment

A backhanded compliment is all that superficial individuals will give. They have no self-awareness, which means that if they want to say something nice, it has to be followed by something to squash you.

32. Your problems irritate them

An eye roll is a sign that says “you waste my time” when addressing a minor issue.

33. If you aren’t cool anymore, you’re a ghost

If you are not able to develop a connection with a shallow individual, don’t be surprised if they will either ghost you or stop being your friend.

34. You introduce yourself to them many times

You aren’t important to them, so why would they spend a lot of time remembering your face and name?

35. They tell you what you should do

They always have the answers to every question that you may have. They will also always say that you are not as smart as them.

36. Everything they do is amazing

A superficial individual believes that they are the cosmic center, and everything they do is exceptional.

You are not good at what you do, even if you have the world’s best job. Even though it is, it will not compare to what your shallow friend did that day.

37. Everything in their life is awesome, all day, every day

People who are superficial have the best life possible. They have the most beautiful homes, children, and spouses. They refuse to acknowledge that they are not perfect. A superficial individual would find every day of their life to be exceptional.

38. They only talk about their kids

The concept of being superficial and shallow extends beyond just them. It impacts everything they possess, produce, or acquire, including their offspring. They cannot go without dressing their kids in the same way that they just walked out of a catalog.

Sidestep superficial or shallow people at all costs!

The term shallow refers to people who keep everything in their lives surface. Don’t expect a person who is shallow to take care of you as much as you would take care of the least important individual in your life. The only thing that matters in the life of a shallow individual is them.

Being shallow is a sad place to be. In the end, only superficial people care about themselves.
